After the performance in our last match it was important that we built on it.
Playing against a strong team who had previously beaten us, it was going to be a hard challenge. TGFC started strongly with good passing, pace and movement.
The under nine’s team however held their shape and worked hard; captain Alekis and Dan were both outstanding, both defensively and with quality passing that launched counter attacks and chances to score. It was good to have Federico back in the team and the game was finally balanced.
Then we conceded a goal, but with Eddie, Isaac, Seamus and Jack using possession well, soon after conceding we equalised with with a great move and finish from Seamus. Before their team could regroup we broke again, a quick interchange of passes led to Jack putting Seamus clear and again he finished perfectly.
At half time the game was finely balanced with both teams having played good football but we had a deserved lead.
At the start of the second half we continued on the front foot. Tom came into defence and picked up the game perfectly with a confident and assured match. Isaac hit an early pass down the line for Jack who cut inside. Having missed out with a couple of good chances earlier he put a really difficult finish away spinning the ball in the corner from a tight angle. It was a goal Jack’s hard work and performance deserved.
Louis now showed determination fighting for every ball. As we neared the end of the game TG scored a deflected goal from a corner, but although there was pressure we deserved the win and had more chances to score.
A special mention for Antony, who had been very unwell and off school, but refused to let his team down and insisted on playing. We couldn’t have done it with out him. We have dominated other games, but this was the team’s best performance and huge credit to all the players.
In the post match excitement, we didn’t choose a MOTM; in this case it seems right that the team and all the players in it are the winners.

Well done to the Under 9s!
